Trial and sentence

Ramirez was convicted of 13 murders, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 burglaries. Evidence used against Ramirez in the trial included distinctive stab wounds, ligatures and restraints, stolen jewelry and possessions, and unused bullets from his .22-caliber pistol. He was sentenced to die in California’s gas chamber and stayed on death row for 23 years until his death, which was caused by complications from lymphoma.
